Subject: [*] Diet Sleuth 3.0.0

Diet Sleuth 3.0.0:

Diet Sleuth is a nutritional database and personal health logbook for
the Macintosh.

Diet Sleuth allows you to keep track of what foods you eat each day, and
their nutritional value. For each day, you select the foods you have
eaten, and the number of servings of each. Diet Sleuth will
automatically calculate your caloric intake, fat grams, carbohydrates,
fiber, protein, cholesterol, along with sodium, potassium, and calcium.
You can select from over 5000 different foods from 21 catagories,
including fast food, lunchmeat, junk food, seafood, and baby food. In
addition to the included food groups, you can create and edit your own
foods in a separate catagory. You can also create a catagory of favorite
foods to quickly access commonly used foods. A built-in Recipe Editor
allows you to quickly enter a custom recipe, with the nutritional
information automatically calculated, based on the ingedients.

You may also track your weight, and estimate your percent body fat, and
calories burned, along with your projected weight loss. Graphing
functions are also available.

The URL to download a copy of Diet Sleuth is

HTML OptimizerPro 1.7.2

What it is: Tool to check and optimize your web pages
Author: Ton Brand
Company: Ton's Software
License: shareware US$8.00
Computer: PowerPC
MacOS: 7.5 or later
Abstract:
HTML OptimizerPro's main function is to save space on your web pages by
removing unnecessary characters and tags, making parsing the page by a
browser more efficient.
Four other useful functions of HTML OptimizerPro are:
(1) Checking the so called tagged pairs, i.e. the tags that always have to
appear together with their end tags. Further, IMG tags are checked for WIDTH,
HEIGHT and ALT attributes. ALT attributes can be added if missing, with or
without string.
(2) Checking the validity of the internal links.
(3) Marking dangling tags and missing attributes to find them quickly.
(4) Converting special characters to the &....; notation.
New in this update is an improved search function for converted special
characters.
HTML OptimizerPro is a PPC application and requires MacOS 7.5 or later.

Principia is a novelty desk accessory featuring Sir Isaac Newton. Place
the Principia file in the Apple Menu Items folder within the System
Folder, or run it directly as a stand alone application if you like.

A window appears in the lower left corner of the screen containing an
image (one of three) of Sir Isaac Newton. The Apple icon in the menu
bar wiggles and then drops down bonking him on the head.

Sound Studio is an audio recording and editing app for the Mac OS. It allows
you to take full advantage of your Mac's built-in sound recording and
playback capabilities, to digitize your collection of vinyl and tapes, to do
live recording of audio, to edit new and pre-existing digital audio, and to
save your audio in AIFF or Sound Designer II format to be used in other
audio apps. And it all costs just US$25, if you decide to keep it beyond the
14-day trial period.

Version 1.3 adds Sound Designer II file format support, single-channel
editing, and sound input source controls. It also has many bug fixes and UI
tweaks. It requires Mac OS 8.5 and a Power Macintosh. See

Subject: an almost crashed G3

Dear friends,

last friday a PMac Blue G3/350 (HFS+, Mac OS 8.6) almost crashed. The
internal HD is no longer visible on the desktop, and at startup
(startup with system CD) I'm being asked if I'd like to _FORMAT_ the
internal HD!

So I run Disk First Aid, and that's not of much help, even if it
reports a "BTree Node dimension not valid, 4, 0" error. Unfortunately
I can't repair the drive with Disk Firts Aid. I can still "see" the
HD name in Disk First Aid's window, as the HD is recognized by this
application.

What do you suggest? Have any handy utility that can help me recover
this hard disk?

Subject: Clipboard & EPS conversion & memory

In Adobe Illustrator 8 , if i have a 3 Mb graphic open and copy it to the
clipboard, when I open Photoshop (in which I hope to post it) I get an error
message saying that the clipboard doesnt have enough memory.

There is 320Mb on the system and at this time about 200Mb free !

It looks like it is happening when the clipboard is converting to EPS
format.

Is there a way to allocate more memory to the clipboard or another solution
?

Many thanks

Subject: Font crash requires system wipe

I have OS 9 on a G4 .

There are a couple of fonts that have dubious origins that if dragged into
the system folder cause a problem on the next reboot

The problem is a bomb with the message "not enough memory to load sound
manager"

If I then start without extensions, remove the font and restart the message
returns.

If I then disable the Sound manager extension , I get the same message with
another extension and so on.

I have tried reinstalling the system over the top, but it doesnt help.

In the end I wipe the disk and reinstall and away I go until I install the
font again .

Can anyone kindly explain why this can be happening and advise a simpler
remedy for the future

Many thanks

Subject: OS9 and usb and zip

I have a new G4 Mac. A few days ago I prepared a 250M Zip disk with a small
version of the system so that I could boot from it to run Microsoft Office
when needed for a client without having it on my hard drive and messing up
my Word 5.1 settings.

That worked perfectly.

Yesterday I tried to do the same thing, and my Mac informed me that it
cannot boot from a Zip disk. It will not let me designate the Zip disk as
the startup disk.

Since it did boot from it only a few days before, I assumed that the
problem might be software I had installed in the meantime. That consisted
of ATM light (btw, even following the instructions to use the 4.5.2
updater, I cannot get ATM Plus to work--system crashes at restart) and the
updated version of ATR. Neither is giving me any problem.

Nonetheless, i turned both off. No difference.

The zip drive, a USB 250M drive, is plugged into a USB hub (labelled as
being by Hit's Communications) along with my TA/DSU connection.

Any suggestions?
