Subject: [*] AddressBook  4.0.6

AddressBook 4.0.5 fixes bugs which caused printing to crash. See Read Me
for details.

The original code for Address Book was written by Jim Leitch, deceased.
Smith Productions have modified that code to create Address Book 4. The
only changes made were to support the current MacOS, 8.1 and to build the
application using Metrowerks's CodeWarrior. No additional features were
added. The primary changes made to this document has been to eliminate
contact information for the original author. I will support user with
previous version of Address Book when ever possible, however as I do not
have the source code for version prior to 3.7.2.. If you have an older
version of Address Book it is recommended that you upgrade to Address Book
4.

Address Book 4 is an easy-to-use, fast and powerful way to manage and
control lists of names, addresses, and phone numbers. The Application works
on Macs from the Plus to the latest PowerMacs.

* preset fields for easy set-up and data entering
* memory-resident list for fast finding and sorting
* multiple sort capabilities
* import utilities allow importing from other databases, word processing
programs, and Personal Information Managers
* exports to mail merge, databases, word processors, and spreadsheets, and
palmtop computers, including Newton, Psion 3a, Sharp Wizard, and HP95LX
* prints envelopes, labels, business cards, postcards, Rolodex, standard
and custom address books, and lists, in color if your printer supports it
* prints postal bar codes
* phone dialing through modems, the Mac speaker, Hyperdialer=81, and Desktop
Dialer=81
* log file for logging calls, taking notes
* call timer
* macros
* on-line help
* multiple language capability
* password protection
* regular updates will be available on the Internet from regular download
sites.

Address Book, is year 2000 ready. Address Book makes use of the built-in
Macintosh date routines, which function correctly well pass the year 3000.

Subject: [*] AppleTree1.3.3 - a statistics tool for multinomial modeling

AppleTree is an application for statistical modeling.
It allows to fit multinomial binary tree models of arbitrary size to
frequency data using the "General Processing Tree" algorithm developed by
Hu and Batchelder (1994).
AppleTree can read model files and data files written for the MS-DOS "MBT"
program developed by Xiangen Hu, University of Memphis, Tennessee.

Multinomial models can be created with a built in graphical editor.
Restrictions to the models can be added using a graphical interface.
AppleTree fits model parameters to frequency data, it provides estimates
for the free parameters together with confidence intervals, it provides
power analyses for a given model, and it allows for checking the
identifiability of a model.

AppleTree is freeware. It runs natively on both 680x0 and PowerPC Macs.

See <http://www.psychologie.uni-trier.de:8000/projects/AppleTree.html> for
latest informations.

Changes since version 1.2.1:

* Graphical model editor
* Power analysis
* Generates expected data sets for a given model
* MacOS 8.5 support (Appearance Manager, Navigation Services, proportional
scrollbars, etc.)

Requirements
* MacOS 7.5 or later
* Motorola 68020 or better (no FPU required) or any PowerPC.
  PowerPC recommended.

Subject: [*] FONTaSEE FROM 2.0e to 3.0a

This update adds a quick print routine (F13) to allow the user to avoid
the manual and just get the needed details about the fonts. Once
selected (F13) program will auto print the details of the fonts in the
system folder. Program still prints headlines and banners and gives all
the information you could want about a font. For the additional details
about the fonts and routines you will still have to read the manual.
Fixes - just some alignment fixes for the output on some printers that
crunched some lines because of the height of the fonts.
Other additions - a few more printing options (quicker) that give you
some additional information without having to run multiple routines
first.

Program is still free.....

Hang2000 v1.3 Released!

Merrimack, New Hampshire, February 1, 1999: Ken Winograd and
Space-Time Associates announced today the release of version 1.3
of a fun Macintosh shareware game called Hang2000. Hang2000 is
a new take on the classic hangman word guessing game we
all played when we were kids. It features colorful,
non-violent graphics, digitized sounds, synthesized speech,
dozens of built-in word categories, thousands of words,
unlimited lists of your own words, and much more.

Hang2000 is "secretly educational". It's played for fun,
but you can't help learning. Included in Hang2000 is a
new "knowledge area". This area will include
information associated with the guessed word or phrase.
If the word chosen is from the States or Countries
category, for example, the knowledge area will show the
capital of the State or Country. If the category is Authors
or Composers, the knowledge area will show facts about, or
famous works of, the author or composer. Of course, you can
also make your own lists (unlimited in number) and include
your own associated information.

There are dozens of categories, guaranteed to include
something for everyone. From Monsters and Dinosaurs to
Star Trek and Television Shows, from Animals and Birds
to Colors and Cities, from Fruits and Vegetables to
Presidents and Vice-Presidents, from Rock and Roll to
Opera and Musical Instruments. And literally dozens more!

This new version (v1.3) adds a host of new digitized sounds,
as well as a new "change case button" that allows you to
switch the large alphabetical icons between lower case and
upper case. This truly allows the program to be enjoyed
by users of all ages...K-12 and beyond.

Hang2000 requires a Macintosh that supports 256 colors
or more.

Hang2000 is available now. For more information, or to
download or securely register the program, please visit
the Hang2000 web page at:

Subject: [*] MM100DEMOInstall.hqx Meeting Improvement

The SU5 Group, Inc. is pleased to present Meeting Maestro(TM), a new
Mac-compatible business management software product. It is a valuable tool for
any organization that spends much of its time in meeting rooms.

By recording timing information about a meeting--who speaks when, about what,
and for how long--Meeting Maestro provides an objective view of the dynamics
of the meeting. Recording the information is as easy as clicking a button.
After the meeting, the information is presented in a report that makes it easy
to analyze what happened and identify needed improvements. Included in the
documentation are many helpful tips for identifying problems and suggestions
for alleviating those problems. There is also plenty of advice to the
participants on how they can use the report to sharpen their own meeting
skills. As meeting skills improve, meetings become more efficient, the
organization saves time and money, and people feel better about the overall
meeting experience.

This demo version is for 68K, but will run fine in emulation on
PowerMacintosh models.
It is just like the real thing, but with no printing and expires in 30 days
after first run.
Requires System 7, 68030, 25MHz or greater, 3 MB Ram, 3.5MB free disk space,
Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or greater.

You have SU5's permission to include this demo for commercial distribution on
info-mac CD-ROM archive collections. Also, the demo version has been uploaded
to the info-mac ftp site with the name as spelled in the first part of the
subject line.

Subject: [*] Ypatia and Ismini greek fonts

Ypatia, a greek scientific font

Ypatia is a font for the typesetting of scientific documents in greek using
TeX.
It is thus complementing Knuth's Computer Modern fonts.

Ypatia is based on the Ismini-Clio family of fonts developed by one of us
(NG).

The name has been chosen in honour of Hypatia of Alexandria, the greatest
woman mathematician of the ancient era. (Read "A brief history of Ypatia"
included in this package.)
The spelling of the font name was chosen so as to give the correct greek
spelling when displayed in the same font.

This package includes the font in both bitmat and postscript versions and
the Ypatia keyboard. Snapshots of the four possible keyboards are also
included as a =8A Word document, against the objections of one of us (VG).
We include also AFM data as well as the metric files to be used with the
TeX typesetting program Textures=81 (BlueSky research,
http://www.bluesky.com/)

Ypatia is meant as a typesetting font. It is not meant as a screen font for
the source text. Textures' editor uses the Monaco font for this task. While
Ypatia can be used and at a size of 14 points can even be readable enough
what is really needed is a greek non-proportional font. This will be
addressed in some, hopefully, non-remote future.

Paris, February 1999

Nikos Goulandris (nicolas.goulandris@wanadoo.fr)
Vasilis Grammaticos (grammati@paris7.jussieu.fr)

PS. Ypatia is (obviously) a Macintosh font. If somebody is interested in
(God forbid!) a Wintel version of Ypatia he/she can contact the authors at
the above e-addresses. (The results are NOT guaranteed).
