Subject: [*] Master Key 1.5 teaches typing

Master Key is a straightforward typing tutor program specifically
written for the Mac. It offers instruction on QWERTY, Dvorak
keyboards and numeric keypad, support for international keyboards,
history and statistics, multiple users and groups on or off a
network, passwords and administrative tools. Minimum requirements:
68040, System 7.1. Shareware: $15.

Changes in version 1.5
- Added support and drills for numeric keypad.
- Added drills for top row and several new stories and anecdotes
- Where supported, now supports 23 international key layouts
including animation, and keyboard menu is now changed automatically
and restored to whatever it was when the program was launched.
However, lessons are still English QWERTY and Dvorak.
- Added option for single or double spaces between sentences.
- Rewrote Drill generator to produce more sentence like grammar
though it still produces nonsense and has thus been dubbed "Unnatural
Language Generator" (ULG).
- Changed Key WPM and Key Error rate to calibrate to Mastery Goals.
- Changed Stat Window to give better at-a-glance information
- Fixed bug where program would not quit on the required AppleEvent.
- Fixed minor key animation bugs.
- Fixed bug where Classroom Edition disabled adding pupils after 5th new pupil.

Subject: [*] Passenger 1.0 Server Account/Password Tool

Passenger is a server account creation and password generation tool
that will import tab and comma-delimited text files and create
account information and passwords for AppleShare IP 6.3, Macintosh
Manager, Eudora Internet Mail Server, WebSTAR FTP, and WebSTAR Web.

Usernames can be formulated from names with several choices. Users
may also create user folders and set their privileges or define their
own export formats for most tab or comma-delimited export. Passenger
uses an algorithm for passwords so that they can be regenerated.

Standard Edition ($60) offers importing and processing up to 150 user
accounts at once.

Professional Edition ($90) offers no hard limit on the number of
users that can be imported and processed. Only limited by RAM and
disk space.

PowerPC required, Mac OS 8.5 or higher recommended.

session timer 3.0

(c) 1999-2000, Stefan Schramm
rootsolutions@kagi.com

System requirements: Mac or Windows computer.

The session timer is a handy tool for logging time on your computer. It is
not affected by accidentally closing the timer, quitting Filemaker, or even
a system crash.

New in version 3.0:
*standalone operation (no Filemaker Pro required).
*optional shareware registration allows for an unlimited number of timers.
This gives you the option of tracking all your computer jobs accurately
over as many days/weeks/months as needed.
*elapsed time can also be displayed as payment/hour, based on an hourly
rate which is individually selectable for each timer.
*timers can be sorted by name, elapsed time, and total payment.
*the timer overview allows transport control of all timers from one
convenient location (screen-saving display with a single timer as in
previous versions still available).
*selectable preferences for payment/hour, default view, and sorting mode.
*much improved online help.

Subject: file type changes

For some reason all my stand alone text files have been converted to
Teach Text from Simple Text. As a result , I can't open them. Does
anyone have any ideas about this and how I might be able to change
them back?

Thanks

Subject: Odd behavior when multiple apps are running

Hi.

Platform: 266Mhz beige G3, MacOS 9.0.4

The following has been happening recently when I have several
applications running:

(1) All applications, with the exception of the currently-running
application, are grayed out in the application menu.

(2) If I move from one application to another, the windows associated
with the application that I have just moved from do not remain visible.

Hence, only the windows of one application (the currently running
application) are visible at any particular time. Needless to say, this
is rather inconvenient.

I have rebuilt the Desktop and reinstalled the core system software, and
it hasn't helped.

Suggestions? Thanks.

Subject: Spurious(?) Word 98 'Insufficient Memory' problem.

Recently, using Word 98 on a PM G3 machine (OS 8.6), I have been getting an
alert that tells me that there is insufficient memory (or
insufficient memory to update a window) with the usual advice to
close unwanted windows etc. This happens even though no other
application is running and when the 'About This Computer' display
shows an unused block of 85 Mb with Word 98 using only about one
third of its assigned 18 Mb. What is going on here and how do I stop
it happening?
TIA -
Fergus Lalor
