Agent Audio v1.0.1
(68k Version)

The Mac was made to be customized...especially when it comes to audio, as
all Macs come with the native ability to play sounds. Some software
companies halfheartedly acknowledge this by adding a few sounds to their
products but hiding them deep within the program, thus leaving you with
little ability to use the sounds YOU want to hear. Now you can do
something about it.

Agent Audio enables you to easily:
- View and play sounds embedded within programs and files
- Replace a program's sounds with your own Macintosh sound files
- Save a program's sound resources to individual Macintosh sound files
- Create archives of sound settings for back-up or reverting to them later

Hacking into applications to change sounds used to take skill and would
pose a risk in ruining your software. Not any more. Agent Audio "solves
the crime" of boring sounds and empowers you to customize your software
with YOUR sounds, not some cheap beeps or bells without style or
personality.

Agent Audio lets you safely replace the "snd" resources of any
application or file that already has them. Select the program you wish to
customize to view the available sounds. Then select the sounds you wish
to use, click the "move" button, and Agent' does all of the work for you!

Replace the music of your games with your favorite song, customize your
"new mail" sound in your email client, or change the sounds in your
America Online client! You can literally customize any software with
sound resources to your liking. Or, if you like a particular sound in a
program, use Agent Audio to extract the sound and save it to a
double-clickable sound file!

If you don't know what the BMW CyberDrive promotion is, this file will
do you no good and you may skip to the next message.

This is an alternate opening HTML page for the BMW CyberDrive promotion
made primarily for Mac MS Internet Explorer users who are unable to
access the CyberDrive CD-ROM while online.

It contains links to all the viewable QuickTime and QuickTimeVR movies
hidden on the CyberDrive CD-ROM so you can access them at full speed
whether online or offline. It opens the CyberDrive web site in a
separate browser window so that the movies can be "sort of" integrated
into the total presentation. (I left off a few movies that were not
browser viewable, but have included a text listing of the CD's catalog
if you want to try to extract them.)

I slapped this page together without the knowledge or consent of BMW or
anyone else. It's OK with me to include it in the Info-Mac CD, but be
aware that the CyberDrive promotion ends in July 1997. Enjoy.

Subject: [*] Cone of Silence 1.0b2 - Stops key capture

Cone of Silence 1.0b2

This file replaces the older version already in the archive:

app/Cone-of-Silence-10b1.hqx

Abstract:

Cone of Silence is an application that blocks key capture programs while
it is running. There are many utilities out there that save all key strokes
to a file. The purpose of these programs (usually) is to save anything you
have been typing in case of a system crash. The downside is, malicious users
install them on other peoples machines (public labs, etc.) and gather
information like passwords to network services. This is a MAJOR security
issue.

Cone of Silence can be used to ease some of the fears associated with
using public access machines. While I can not claim that this program
guarantees security in all cases, it does do a good job with every method of
key capturing I have found. I carry Cone of Silence around myself, whenever
I must use a potentially insecure machine.

This is a public beta release - I have done extensive testing on my system -
but not on too many other different systems.

Requirements

A MacOS compatible computer
System 7 or greater
ADB Keyboard (Apple or equivalent) - If there is enough interest I may do a
version for older non-ADB keyboards (Mac Plus etc.)

Shareware: $10 - Site License $200 ($100 for educational institutions)
Cone of Silence may be distributed on shareware collections.

this was an awful shame, as I have always enjoyed playing Ultimas on my

over 75 Mac web pages, contains some instructions on how to use
anonymous ftp and find files as well a format chart showing which

certain decoded files. This archive contains both the text and html

Please note that the html part is actually four crosslinked files:
mac-ftp-list.html, ftp-list.html, www-section.html, and site-notes.html
that require HTML Browser such as Lynx, Mosaic or NetScape to view.

Must be in a monospaced font so that the columns line up correctly;
Courier 10pt is recommended, though Monaco 9pt or a PC equivalent can be
used instead. Needs StuffIt Expander or equivalent {unsitins.exe} to
decompress.

I am pleased to announce the release of Program Switcher v4.3.2, NOW with
support for Kaleidoscope!

Program Switcher is a convenient timesaving control panel that allows you
to switch between the applications running on your System 7 or greater
Macintosh via a simple two-key keystroke. It was inspired by the same
function found in "Windows," but has been improved and transformed into a
unique and fully configurable control panel that makes switching and
managing applications on the Macintosh as simple as pressing a couple of
keys.

Program Switcher's main features include:
    - User settable switching keys.
    - Seven diffent switching themes, including one that tells you how
much RAM is beng used. The appearance of each theme is user configurable,
allowing countless "looks" for Program Switcher.
    - Quit and hide specific applications just by pressing a few keys.
    - Program Switcher is Kaleidoscope savvy! A new option enables Program
Switcher's switching window to honor the current Kaleidoscope color
scheme.
    - Converts your function keys into Power Keys! Many useful functions
including "Quit all applicatrions but Finder" and "Switch to Finder and
hide other applications."
    - Plus many, many more options and features...

Subject: [*] Speech Typer v1.0.3

Speech Typer is a new and innovative use of Apple's Speech Recognition
technology. Up to now, Apple's Speech Recognition technology has been
used just to make commands. While this has been useful, it does very
little to help users to get data into their computer. Speech Typer has
been written to solve that problem by typing any predefined phrase into
any application you may be using. While Speech Typer does not make your
Mac a full fledged dictation machine, it does allow you to "type"
commonly used words and phrases just by saying them.

Requirements

Speech Typer is a Power PC only application and requires the Speech
Recognition Manager extension v1.5 or later. You may download the
current version of the Speech Recognition Manager from Apple's web page
at http://speech.apple.com/ptk/.

Subject: [*] video-toolbox-97-07-01-c.sit

The VideoToolbox is a collection of two hundred C subroutines and several
demo and utility programs that I and others have written to do visual
psychophysics with Macintosh computers. It is fully compatible with 680x0
and PowerPC Macs and with Metrowerks CodeWarrior and Symantec C
compilers. It's free and may not be sold without permission. It should be
useful to anyone who wants to present accurately specified visual stimuli
or use the Mac for psychometric experiments. The text file "Video synch"
discusses all the ways of synchronizing programs to video displays and
the many pitfalls to avoid. The TimeVideo application checks out the
timing of all video devices in anticipation of their use in critical
real-time applications, e.g. movies or lookup table animation. "Video
bugs" reports all known bugs uncovered by TimeVideo's testing of 56 video
cards and drivers. Low-level routines control video timing and lookup
tables, display real-time movies, and implement the luminance-control
algorithms suggested by Pelli and Zhang (1991). In particular,
CopyWindows (or CopyBitsQuickly) faithfully copies between on-screen and
off-screen windows (or bit/pixmaps), WindowToEPS saves an image to disk
as encapsulated PostScript, for later printing or incorporation into a
document, and SetEntriesQuickly and GDSetEntries load the screen's color
lookup table, all without any of QuickDraw's color translations.
NoisePdfFill.c quickly generates visual noise images whose pixels are
samples from a specified probability density function. High-level
routines help analyze psychophysical experiments (e.g. maximum-likelihood
fitting and graphing of psychometric data). Assign.c is a runtime C
interpreter for C assignment statements, which is useful for controlling
experiments and sharing calibration data. This collection has been
continually updated since 1991. More that one hundred colleagues
subscribe to the email distribution (see below), and have indicated that
they are using the software in their labs. Documentation is in the source
files themselves. Many of the routines are Mac-specific, but some very
useful routines, e.g. the luminance-control, statistics,
maximum-likelihood fitting algorithms, and the runtime interpreter are
written in Standard C and will work on any computer. Those wishing to
acknowledge use of the VideoToolbox software might cite:

Subject: [*] Word 5.1a patch

This patch for Microsoft Word 5.1a removes the 'System memory too low'
problem that the program may exhibit when running on system software
versions 7.5.3 and greater. Because of the way new system software
allocates system memory, the application erroneously believes there will
not be enough system memory for it to function properly. This patch
cancels that check. There should be no adverse effects from applying
this patch.

The patched file version will be changed to 5.1A (uppercase 'a') as a
visual clue for future reference. This patcher application will not make
a copy of the Microsoft Word file that it patches, so you should already
have made any necessary copies.
