Subject: [*] ProMaker Utils 0.9.2

Announcing the release of ProMaker Utils 0.9.2.

This is a FileMaker Pro productivity tool for enhancing working with
ScriptMaker.

If you are a FileMaker Pro 3.0 user or developer and write ScriptMaker
scripts this small application can save you a lot of time. ProMaker Utils
makes it possible to paste an entire ScriptMaker script (all steps) from a
TEXT file into a FileMaker Pro script. No more clicking until your hands
hurt, just enter them in one go!

New in version 0.9.2:
- Fixed problem with Filemaker hidden.
- Fixed an incompatibility with Kaleidoscope. ProMaker Now works with
Kaleidoscope and Aaron.
- Added Preferences
- You can now stop a paste in progress by holding down the control key.

How does it work?
- Open FileMaker Pro and the script you want to paste the steps in.
- Use ProMaker Utils to open a TEXT file with the script-steps in it (some
sample text files are included).
- Enter the complete script by pressing command-E.

ProMaker Utils will bring FileMaker to the front and start pasting the
steps into the selected script. It is that simple.

System Requirements
Macintosh with 68030 or better or Power Macintosh.
System 7.1 or later (also tested on the upcoming 8.0 release).
ProMaker Utils requires 600 Kb of RAM.
ProMaker Utils doesn't use a patch or an extension so no potential
conflicts there.
Of course you need a copy of FileMaker Pro, this should be version 3.0v4
(US). or 3.0Bv4 (British).

For more information, please read the Read Me file enclosed, or visit our
Web site at: <http://www.euronet.nl/users/troi>.

Subject: [*] Sloop 68K 1.0.1 (English)

Sloop is a MacOS extension that implements a unique window navigation
strategy: cursor focusing. With cursor focusing, whatever window or
application the mouse is over comes to the foreground without the need
to click the mouse button. Sloop increases productivity, may reduce some
repetitive strain, is customizable, stable, and small. Sloop requires
MacOS 7.1 or higher, comes in separate versions for 680x0 Macs and
PowerMacs, and is also available in several languages. This is the
English version of Sloop 1.0.1 for 68K Macs. Other versions are also
available. Quadratic Software can be contacted at support@quadratic.com.

Subject: [*] AutoLaunch Pro 1.0.9

Attached is version 1.0.9 of AutoLaunch Pro, which corrects an error in
the contact information for the recently released version 1.0.8, which
in turn fixed a minor bug in version 1.0.7. This version should replace
any earlier releases of AutoLaunch Pro in the archives, but should sit
alongside AutoLaunch, the single-user shareware version.

AutoLaunch Pro is a screen saver engine for the Mac OS that runs
Macromedia Director projectors and other standalone presentations. It
provides a high quality, cost effective means for multimedia authors to
distribute their work as screen savers, complete with customizations to
ensure it fits with the "look and feel" of their project. AutoLaunch
Pro provides the following features:

o Runs a Macromedia Director projector or any other Macintosh
application as a screen saver.

o Provides users with screen saver controls for on/off, delay, and
activation options in an easy to use control panel.

o Allows authors to customize the AutoLaunch Pro control panel with
their own artwork using a user-friendly setup application.

o Requires no special scripting of Director projectors, and allows use
of all Director features and Xtras.

This software is a full-featured demonstration version. Before
distributing screen savers with AutoLaunch Pro, you must purchase a
license code, as explained in the accompanying documentation.

In addition to the standard internet archives, information and updates
are available at:

<http://www.stclairsw.com/>

AutoLaunch Pro may be included on the UMich and Info-Mac CD-ROMs.

Subject: [*] ColorSwitch_Pro_1.1.0.hqx

ColorSwitch Pro takes the cue from Apple's vaunted Control Strip, adds
many sorely-missed features to the mix, and packages it all up in a
tidy, convenient pull-down menu that's always available when you need
it.

ColorSwitch Pro allows you to master your Macintosh with a set of
convenient controls for adjusting things such as PPP dial-up
connections, network settings, speaker volume, monitor resolution and
color depth, audio CDs, and more.

Simply pull down ColorSwitch Pro's handy icon-menu, select the setting
you'd like to change, and instantly ColorSwitch Pro does your bidding.
No more fiddling with a bevy of control panels or sacrificing your
desktop space to Control Strip.

ColorSwitch Pro's real power lies in its Shortcuts feature: any
combination of settings can be grouped together into a single Shortcut.
For instance, you might have a "Game" Shortcut that switches your
monitor to 640x480, 256 colors and cranks up the sound volume.

Once you've set up a Shortcut, a single menu choice makes it work its
magic, no matter how many settings it changes. You can also assign a
keystroke to your Shortcuts, or even link them to certain applications
so that your settings take effect the instant those applications are
launched. Set and forget.

The kicker is ColorSwitch Pro's modularity: ColorSwitch Pro uses a
plug-in architecture which allows for additional modules that extend its
functionality. Simply drop modules into the "ColorSwitch Pro Modules"
folder, and they're instantly integrated into the ColorSwitch Pro menu
-- no rebooting necessary.

ColorSwitch Pro is a quick, convenient way to stay in control of your
Macintosh. It is instantly available when you need it, while otherwise
staying out of your way. ColorSwitch Pro is an elegant utility that
will become an essential part of your Macintosh experience.

   Price: $20.00
Requires: Any Color-Capable Macintosh, System 7 or later

Subject: [*] gURLfriend v1.02

gURLfriend is a utility that will parse your Netscape or Internet
Explorer bookmarks files into a format that is more convenient to post
onto a web site. The standard bookmark file contains information such
as the add date, the last visit and the last modified time. This extra
information is pretty much useless to most people and is removed by
gURLfriend. The gURLfriend application also searches through your
bookmarks list and indexes all the bookmark folder names and creates a
table of contents. This table of contents appears above the list of URLs
when viewed using a browser. By clicking on the folder name, the user is
brought to the place in the URL list that contains those links.

How do I use gURLfriend?

gURLfriend is very easy to use. Simply drag and drop your bookmarks
file onto the gURLfriend application. gURLfriend will write out a file
named gURLfriend.html. Your original bookmarks file is untouched. You
can then post this HTML file onto your web page.

Why would I want to use gURLfriend?

If you are like me you put a copy of your bookmarks list on your home
page. By using gURLfriend you will significantly decrease the size of
this file and also make it easier to use. My bookmarks file size went
from 64K to 35K after running them through gURLfriend. It is also
indexed which makes it easier to use. A parsed bookmarks file takes much
less time to transfer when posted on your page.

Where can I find updates to this program and other software by the
author?

Subject: [*] Sloop (68K) 1.0.1J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the Sloop package for 68K computers.

Sloop, by Quadratic Software, is a program that adds cursor focusing to
the MacOS. What is cursor focusing? Cursor focusing is a different way
to navigate between windows. When cursor focusing is enabled, whatever
window the cursor is over automatically moves to the front ("acquires
focus") without having to click in that window. This navigational
strategy is popular on some other windowing operating systems like the X
Window System. Up until now it has not been available for the MacOS.
Sloop generally makes the MacOS easier to use by helping you sail
through your windows and applications without having to incessently
click your mouse. Sloop improves overall productivity by speeding up
window and application navigation. Sloop includes many options for
creating a custom solution to suit your needs. And best of all, Sloop
makes people who use other operating systems that don't have cursor
focusing envious of the enhanced power of the MacOS! Since I started
using the first development versions of Sloop, I haven't been able to
stop. When I turn Sloop off or uninstall it from my computer, I quickly
become frustrated at all the clicking I have to do. Until I started
using Sloop, I took all this clicking for granted and didn't even
realize how much time I spent doing it. Sloop is now an essential part
of my daily Mac usage. I hope after trying it out for a week or two,
Sloop will become an indispensible part of your Mac usage as well. Sloop
actually consists of two programs: the Sloop Sail and the Sloop Rudder.
The Sloop Sail belongs in the Extensions Folder of your System Folder.
It is what does the actual work of tracking the mouse and switching
among windows and applications. The Sloop Rudder let's you customize
Sloop by setting various options. The Rudder also includes an extensive
online manual and help facility.

Sloop 1.0.1 fixes a few bugs, and adds one new feature. Specifically,
here are the fixes: Conflict Catcher no longer reports damaged resources
in the Sail; the help screen no longer reloads if you choose the same
topic from the popup menu; the Sail resource fork should be more stable;
I fixed a problem where in some applications it wouldn't select windows
if only the bottom of a window was showing; you can now add old-style
desk accessories to the application lists; I fixed a problem with
artificial clicks on the scroll bars in some applications; the Rudder
now correctly handles the hiliting of the "Factory" button; the Rudder
is now compatible with NoBalloonMenu; there is now better error
reporting; and the help topics menu now has separators. The new feature
is this: you can tell Sloop not to switch when the command key is held
down.

Speech Typer is a new and innovative use of Apple's Speech Recognition

little to help users to get data into their computer. Speech Typer has
been written to solve that problem by typing any predefined phrase into

Subject: [*] Stalker Internet Mail Server 1.0b3 - FREE!

Stalker Internet Mail Server 1.0b

Introduction

The Stalker Internet Mail Server is a server application implementing
Internet mail exchange service using the SMTP protocol, remote mailbox

access using the POP3 protocol, and the "poppwd" service for remote
password modification.
This version of the Stalker Internet Mail Server is FREE. It does not
have any limitations, and it can be used to support several hundred
accounts.

The high performance Mail Server relies on OpenTransport, so OT 1.1.1 or
better should be installed on the server computer. While this version is
still slower than the best UNIX mail servers on comparable CPUs, several
new enhancements will be implemented shortly. But even this beta version
easily handles 100+ incoming and 100+ outgoing simultaneous connections
on a Quadra or low-end PowerPC machines. The server itself still has the
68K-only code, so the speed of the native version is expected to be
limited with the MacOS File System bottlenecks only.

The system design allows to configure, control, and monitor the server

from any workstation on your LAN. The CommuniGator application version

2.7 and better (the client component of the CommuniGate(tm) Messaging
System) can be used to perform all administrating operations. It can be
downloaded from the regular CommuniGate sources:
<http://www.stalker.com/CommuniGate> or any major Internet Mac archive.
When talking to the Stalker Internet Mail Server, the CommuniGator
application enables only its administrating functions.

Future releases will allow you to configure the Stalker Internet Mail
Server via any Web browser, so the CommuniGator application will not be
necessary.

Future releases of the Stalker Internet Mail Server will support both
TCP and AppleTalk connections.
The SIMS mailbox format is identical to the UNIX mailbox format, and if
TCP/IP services are not available on the LAN, any mailer that can read
UNIX mailboxes directly (such as Eudora(r)) can also work with the
Server accounts via File Sharing.

Subject: [*] Verbs and Nouns - foreign languages learning

Here is the new (1.5.8), improved version of the "Verbs & Nouns"
application.

"Verbs&Nouns" is an application that helps you to learn the inflection
patterns of verbs and nouns in a foreign language. The program has many
other useful features to help you in learning or researching a foreign
language. It can be used as a dictionary as well.

The program lets you create a database of words. You can easily
construct the inflection rules for words that are regular. You can
include other information about each word, such as a translation,
grammar characteristics, comments, etc. The program automatically
generates exercises to allow you to practise inflection or translation.
You can identify many groups of words to use them in exercises or for
browsing. The application supports sound.

There are some inflection dictionaries for this program available
already. There are: Italian Verbs and Nouns, Polish Verbs and Nouns,
Russian Verbs and Nouns, Swiss-German Verbs and Nouns, Modern Greek
Verbs. I've also adopted a huge public domain English-to-English
dictionary to use with this program.

Subject: [*] Virtue 1.5

Virtue 1.5; May 18, 1997; Price: Free!

Virtue is my guess at Apple Computer's upcoming "Charcoal"
font--scheduled to appear in Mac OS 8.

There is a lot of controversy about this font, and honestly, I think that
most of it is unjustified. Basically, a lot of people do not want this
font to appear in the next OS. I think that this feeling is based on a
"reverse-engineered" font developed by Greg Landweber for his Aaron
extension and Kaleidoscope control panel. Greg built his font from
looking at various screenshots and did a good job at making a very
complete font. However, the spacing information and special characters
characters seemed a little off to me. It seems that Apple couldn't decide
whether Charcoal should have two pixels between the letters or just one.
This leads to a cramped apperance on screen.

So here's what I did: basically, I took his work and tried to space it
how I would if I was making Apple's next font. I studied the "Chicago"
system font and and used it as a template for my font. After about 2
hours of tinkering, I had a bitmap font that looked really good as a
replacement font for Kaleidoscope. About a week later, after tinkering
some more, I think I've made a vast improvement.

I also created an outline version of this font. I am basically doing this
as an exercise. I'm curious how close my version will match up to
Apple's. I also generated some additional bitmaps. The sizes 9, 10 and 11
pt are all my ideas of how the font should scale on screen. For those of
you who love Espy Sans, you will probably enjoy the 11 pt as a
replacement system font.

Subject: [*] Window Monkey 1.1.1

Window Monkey adds background pictures or textures to any disk window in
the Finder. You can color-code your windows to see at a glance what they
contain, or use wild patterns just for fun. Wouldn't it be great if your
folder of "work stuff" had a background that looked like a legal pad? How
about some hearts for those folders full of love letters?

If that weren't enough, this program is useful, too. You can use the
handy Window Monkey menu to quickly go to any window in any application,
even if it's buried beneath many other windows. Window Monkey also
remembers recently used folders and lets you instantly jump to any open
or recently used folder from an Open or Save dialog box.

25 background patterns are included, and you can add as many as you wish
by simply pasting pictures into the control panel. Window Monkey makes a
great companion to other desktop enhancements such as Kaleidoscope.

Try it now to transform the appearance of your Macintosh -- with Window
Monkey installed, patterns aren't just for desktops anymore!
