Subject: [*] BackBrain 1.5

BackBrain version 1.5, a Macintosh program that simulates the
backpropagation type artificial neural network algorithm, is available
for download.

IMPORTANT:
This version correct a serious bug that prevented users with non-US
systems to use the application. Other minor bug fixes are reported on
the webpage and in the readme file.

Introduction
This application lets you create, train, and analyze backprop nets using
an intuitive interface. BackBrain also makes it possible to create 3D
models of network dynamics using Apple's QuickDraw3D. A step by step
tutorial is available as an Apple Guide document (under the Balloon Help
menu). You can also turn on balloon help to quickly assess the function
of particular commands.

System Requirements
BackBrain only works with PowerMacintoshes with System 7 or later and
with the Thread Manager installed. If you have system 7.5 or later then
the Thread Manager is already incorporated, but for former system
versions you need the Thread Manager extension. You will also need
QuickDraw3D 1.5.1 or later and QuickTime.

Fees
BackBrain is shareware with a value of $25,-. Site licences will be plus
$10,- for each extra copy. More information can be found in the Readme
file and on the website.

Blade, the Photoshop filter that combines textures with bevels, now
produces mirrorlike reflections as well.

Blade puts you in control of lighting and surfaces, and offers a wide
selection of edge styles. Produce reflections with the included
environment maps (gold, chrome, outdoor scenes) or make your own. Quickly
create appealingly 'touchable' 3-D appearances like slippery plastic or
beaten copper, as well as eye-catching text, buttons, and more.

Version 1.5 also remembers settings after the host program has quit, and
adds automatic updating of the preview.

Blade is shareware for Macintosh, and requires a paint program and
QuickTime.

Subject: [*] Excalibur 2.5 - Spelling Checker

Excalibur is a freeware spelling checker for LaTeX documents. You can
optionally turn off LaTeX parsing, so Excalibur is a good plain text
spelling checker too.

Features include:

- Excalibur will offer suggestions for how to correct a word.

- Excalibur can spell check the clipboard. This makes it a good
spelling checker for any text based application such as Alpha, BBEdit,
or Eudora.

- Excalibur supports Word Services.

- You will need System 6.0.5 or higher to run Excalibur. It will run
on any Macintosh from a Mac Plus on up.

- British, Catalan, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian and
Spanish dictionaries are also available. (See the Excalibur home
page.)

- It runs in native mode on a PowerPC. This is a fat binary.
- For more information, visit the Excalibur home page:
http://www.eg.bucknell.edu/~excalibr/excalibur.html

Version 2.5 supports Word Services. It fixes a bug that caused
buttons to appear as check boxes under System 8.

GPSView 1.0b
by Craig Burton

GPSView constructs an azimuth/elevation plot of the Global Positioning
System (GPS) constellation for a given position and time. It uses the
concept of a "scenario" to represent a combination of time, position and
GPS almanac. Scenarios can be saved to disk and multiple scenarios can
be evaluated at once - the maximum number of simultaneous scenarios is
limited only by memory.

GPSView _should_ run on all Macs using System 7.x; a machine with an FPU
is _highly_ recommended.

The encoded archive contains:

Subject: [*] PopChar Pro 1.0.2

This is PopChar Pro version 1.0.2.

PopChar Pro is the successor of the freeware control panel
PopChar Lite by Guenther Blaschek.

PopChar Pro extends your menu bar with a menu that shows all characters
available in the current font. Select a character from that menu to "type"
it into the currently edited text.

New in version 1.0.2:

Problems fixed:
 - The PopChar Pro menu sometimes appeared empty under MacOS 8.
 - PopChar Pro caused "address errors" in some low-memory situations.
 - The Installer now checks if there's enough space on the startup disk.
Improvements:
 - The PopChar Pro menu uses the MacOS 8 appearance and proper highlighting
color when "system-wide platinum appearance" in enabled in the Appearance
   control panel.
 - Installer has been made smaller again.

PopChar Pro is distributed by UNI SOFTWARE PLUS. This submission contains the
PopChar Pro Installer that will ask for a serial number. If you don't have a
serial number, the installer will create a full-featured but time-limited demo.

TextInspector 1.1
(Freeware)

This Hypercard stack is a textreader with an easy-to-use point-and-click
hierarchical interface. You can look at all your textfiles/textclippings
just with a few mouseclicks !
Attention: TextInspector ONLY displays textfiles and textclippings. It does
not even attempt to display other files !

TextInspector has some other nice features (e.g. quick renaming of text
clippings to something more meaningful than "text clipping").

If you primarily rely on a texteditor or Nisus Writer to compose text, or
if you store a lot of textfiles/textclippings on your harddrive, this stack
could be very useful to you.
If you use any other Wordprocessor, you will not even SEE your files in
TextInspector. In this case you (probably) do not need this stack.

TextInspector makes extensive use of many great Freeware XCMDs and XFCNs.
Credits to their authors inside the documentation.

What is new:
1) TextInspector now comes in two different versions, one for 14 inch
screens (640 x 480) an one for bigger screens (832 x 640).
2) Option-click on the "Print" button now prints the text with the creator
application.
3) Some minor enhancements.

Requirements:
Hypercard(Player) 2.2 or newer.
A 13 inch screen (640 x 480) or larger.

Subject: [*] Ultimat X Windows Kaleidoscope Color Scheme

Here is my latest color scheme for use with Kaleidoscope 1.7. It's
called Ultimate X Windows, and it's up to version 2.0b1. It should
replace ANY previous version of Ultimate X Windows you might have in you
archive.
This is a TOTAL redo from Ultimate X Windows 1.0b1. 1.0 only had a one
beta version and never did recieve a final version before I updated it.
Now this scheme uses red (active windows) and blue (inactive windows)
colors. It's much closer to X Windows also, including scroll bars,
scroll thumbs, close boxes, etc. Kaleidoscope does have limitations, but
I didn't want to have to create my own WDEF, so there are some
differences between this scheme and X Windows.
Please read the read-me file (which should be included with this
scheme) for more information. All updates will be posted IMMEDIATLY to

Subject: [*] Ultimate NeXT Kaleidoscope Color Scheme

Here is my latest color scheme for use with Kaleidoscope 1.7. It's
called Ultimate NeXT, and it's up to version 1.0b4. It should replace
ANY previous version of Ultimate NeXT you might have in you archive.
Ultimate NeXT is based on the NeXT Step OS, and currently it's about as
close as you can get to having the NeXT Step OS on you mac using
Kaleidoscope. No WDEF's or hacks are used, so there are some changes to
make the scheme work for a Mac. The biggest change is the reversal of
the close box and window box, and the addition of the window shade
widget. Other than that, it's a very close reproduction to the NeXT Step
OS.
Please read the read-me file (which should be included with this
scheme) for more information. All updates will be posted IMMEDIATLY to

Subject: [*] Unquote V1.5

Unquote V1.5
(C)1992-1997 AKUA interactive media AG
by Gregory Lemperle-Kerr

Unquote displays a quote chosen from many thousands at startup. There is
nothing to configure (unless you want to use ResEdit - see below), so
just toss it on your system folder and see something useful during that
startup delay - not to say that startup screens can not be tasty.

If you can use ResEdit, here are some tips:

There are ca. 1000 German quotes you may want to remove if you don't
speak the Kraut language - most of you probably don't. To do so, just
remove the "STR#" resources whose names begin with "D" (for Deutsch).

Check out the QPOS resource. It determines where the quote is displayed
and how the text grows. There are comments in the resource itself on how
to use it. There are only three fields, so you can not muck much up.

V1.3: You can now set the sequential flag in the QPOS resource to have GQ
display quotes sequentially instead of randomly. Although the randomness
has improved in V1.3 as well.

V1.4: GQ now searches your System Folder for "StartupScreen N" where in
is a digit 0 to 9. If it finds a PICT or PICT resource in these files,
they will be drawn on the respective monitors.

V1.5 Unquote now has a 'QFNT' resource that allows you to set the text
font, style and size of the quote.

Unquote is FreeWare and may be distributed any how and anywhere as long
as this document accompanies it.
