Hi there,
Well, this is it -- the last batch of digests from the old address. We
have a lot of uploads -- over 250 megs made into sumex-aim last night. I am
unsure, however, how many made it to the mirrors. In a few hours all access
to sumex-aim will be shut off, so what makes it, makes it...

Many thanks to our archivists! And we will see you soon!

	Cheers,

Subject: [*] BackSlide 1.2, a Java puzzle with a twist

BackSlide 1.2

BackSlide is a Java implementation of a puzzle by Christian Freeling. Obviously
the history of BackSlide goes back to the invention of the '15' puzzle,
commonly
attributed to Sam Loyd. But it is much nicer than "yet another '15' puzzle".

Viewed on one side, it has 652 different solutions (as opposed to Loyd's
1). 8 of these are also meta-solutions, that is: both sides of the puzzle
are solved
simultaneously. All 652 solutions are included in a separate SlideShow applet,
while 4 meta-solutions are accessible from a pop-up menu. If you find one other
meta-solution, you will get permanent access to _all_. Alternatively, you can
register for US$5 and get full access. Please see ReadMe.html (within the
package) for all the details.

The package contains all the necessary files to play BackSlide off-line. It
requires a Java enabled web browser, for instance Netscape Navigator 3.0 or
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0. BackSlide should be compatible with Java 1.0
(Netscape 2.0.1/Win95).

BackSlide is US$5 shareware, copyright 1996-97 by MindSports,
http://www.mindsports.net/ You can preview and play BackSlide on-line, or
download the package, from there.

Changes since v1.1: - New site and email addresses (!) - New style (of the
enclosing html pages) - No noticable changes in the Java applets

Subject: [*] Birthdays-and-Such 1.0.3 update

Birthdays-and-Such 1.0.3

Birthdays and Such is a tiny application meant to be launched on daily startup,
to remind you of the important birthdays and anniversaries in your life. (It's
only 17K, plus a sample Reminders text file and a manual.) It works for me,
which has made me the envy of all my friends and relatives. By setting
reminders 10 or so days ahead, I find I'm as on the ball as the best of the
rest of my friends and relatives in remembering to buy cards and presents
(and to actually send them)--and way ahead of the date-impaired.

Birthdays and Such runs on almost every Macintosh computer that's been made
since 1986 -- Mac Plus through the latest PowerMacs. It requires only
System Software version 6, but takes advantage of System 7 features when
available.

The steps to use Birthdays and Such are simple: You type important dates into a
text file (just modify the sample Reminders file that's part of the
package). And you set Birthdays and Such to run every time you start your
Macintosh. (Simple instructions are in the manual)

Enjoy!

Ron Lichty (RonLichty@AOL.com)

All contents of the Birthdays and Such package are Copyright (c) 1997 Ron
Lichty, All Rights Reserved. This package is shareware. I urge you to share
it. Your friends urge you to share it (ok, they would if they knew you had
it, and how useful it is). You cannot, without my prior written consent,
modify the program and its files (including the About file and the manual)
in any way, except that you may want to add your own birthday (and such) to
the Reminders sample file, so your friends are reminded of the most
important day of the year! :-) You cannot sell it, or include it on a disk
which is sold, without my prior written consent
(this also applies to freeware and shareware distribution outfits such as, but
not limited to, Educorp et al.). With the exception that clubs and user groups
may charge a nominal fee for expenses while distributing Birthdays and
Such. Your
downloading of this file constitutes your agreement to adhere to these terms.

Drop2Register is a small utility designed to store in a common place the
registration info (serial numbers, names, codes etc.) pertaining to the
commercial/shareware applications the user has registered and payed for.

Perhaps you have found yourself searching --a bit desperately-- that small
piece
of paper or post-it note with the register code for one of your games,
utilities
or applications, not too long after re-installing or updating your system or
after an unavoidable re-formatting of your hard-disk.

Search no more! As long as you have a copy of Drop2Register...

Drop2Register has been designed with small requirements in mind. Fast data
acces
was a must for us. If you need to collect the registration data for more than
50
or 60 applications better use a full featured database like FileMaker Pro.

Subject: [*] mail-kanji-fixer-10.hqx

MailKanjiFixer is a utility program which fixes the corrupted Japanese Kanji
characters in the e-mail text (or in the generic text files).

Because of this nature of the program, it's intented for the poeple who can
read
and write Japanese and use Japanese in their e-mail. All the attached documents
(except for the English version READ ME file) are written in Japanese.
Therefore,
you need to use the System which supports Japanese language: i.e. Kanji Talk,
or
US System + Japanese Language Kit to read documents.

If you can not read Japanese, or even do not know what does Kanji mean, forget
about this program and trash it.

But if you use Japanese and have seen corrupted Kanji characters in the
received
e-mails, you might want to try this program to see if it can fix the corrupted
Kanji characters.

As long as I have tested, about 60% of the corrupted Kanji e-mail I have
received
in the past have been fixed successfully with this program.

It's really easy operation and handy.

that way. I'm used to run a number of applications and extensions in the
background (D=E9cor, MyEyes, DragThing, Eudora and other occasional=
 utilities) and
I was tired of relaunching each one of them after running an installer,
rebuilding the desktop using a dedicated utility or running a game=

this task in a single, quick operation.

Distribution You can distribute Reanimator freely, provided that you leave t=

Reanimator in CD-ROMs and other software collections only by previous
agreement. Reanimator is FREEWARE, i.e., free of charge. However, it's NOT
public domain software.

I give permission for this program to be included on the Info-Mac CD-ROM.

Thanks and best regards. Federico

Subject: [*] Software & Hardware Tracker 1.21

Software & Hardware Tracker (Info-Mac directory and reference

registration codes, serial numbers, product notes, useful adresses as well a=
s
phone/fax numbers and URLs for software authors, companies and distributors,
etc.) about all your computer products (hardware, software and
freeware/shareware). Even better, you can launch URLs directly from inside t=
he
database, which will then call upon the Internet Config system to open them =
with
the proper helper applications.

To provide all the features and flexibility needed by international users,
Software & Hardware Tracker distinguishes between the author or authors of a
program, the company that makes it and the one that distributes it.

Moreover, Software & Hardware Tracker differentiates between hardware produc=
ts,
commercial software products and freeware/shareware programs since different
kinds of information are needed when dealing with each category of items. Fo=
r
instance, a commercial software package usually comes with a serial number t=
hat
works no matter what user name you use. But a shareware program will come=
 with a
registration code based on personnal info, such as your name and address.
Software & Hardware Tracker takes those differences and subtleties into acco=
unt.

Software & Hardware Tracker is shareware and costs $10 (though you can also =
use
it as freeware: see the enclosed documentation for conditions and limitation=

Registrations are handled by Kagi Shareware.

You can find three other shareware packages of mine, David's Kaleidoscope Si=

Speed Tester 2.2 c1996-97 Brian Bergstrand Shareware $7

Requirements: PPC Macintosh

This package includes only the native version. The 68k version will be out
shortly.

This is a major update to Speed Tester 2.0 and 2.1. This release adds quite
a few features, such as a new test, progress indicators, balloon help, and
movable
dialogs. See the Version History for a complete list.

Speed Tester is based on an old program called Check Ticks. This program would
run a series of 10,000 GetNextEvent() calls, report how long it took, and then
quit. Speed Tester greatly expands on this idea. Speed Tester includes three
test, GetNextEvent(), Floating Point, and Graphics(when you register). It also
includes a database of Macs for you to compare your times to.

A few of the features are disabled until you register, see the Read Me for
details.

Stock Updator 1.1 is a system for updating stock prices automatically. The

updates its information by itself. The alternative is to sit at the
computer and "click" on reload every time you need the new prices. This way
you can do other more important things - like complain (or celebrate) about
the stock market.

Stock Updator works with any O.S. on any machine with almost any web browser.
Netscape and Explorer support it and so do some others. The readme file that
accompanies Stock Updator has many details on how things work and how it can be
used. Version 1.1 mainly has improved documentation.

Subject: [*] System Errors Application v1.0b

SysErrors is an easy to use lookup table for System Errors.

Primarily it's intended as a quick aid for programmers and technical support.
It
came about because I used to use a handy little thing called System Errors DA,
which appears to have fallen by the wayside.

The fault tables are separated and searchable, with look ups in decimal and
hex,
you can even use it as a hex convertor if you want.

The fault tables are held in the application resource fork, the ResEdit
template
is there too. If you needed to update the existing tables or add third party
library codes then it's very easy.

SysErrors is shareware, charging for something like that, hmm, a little tight I
hear you say. But the advantage is that if people submit changes and
updates then
I'll incorporate them and put out new versions. The cost is ONLY $5, if you
wish
too distribute a customized version then the distribution fee is negotiable.

Don' tbe fooled by the large 300 buck switch -- you want the cheap-o 20 buck

keyboards, it may be only IBM style. :( The only down side is some ghosting
